Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche
Rivers To The Sea
The Rite of Spring
Kensington Symphony Orchestra returns to St John’s Smith Square for the first concert in the orchestra’s 2017/18 season, featuring Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. Causing a riot at its first performance in 1913, this unrelenting, barbaric score still has the power to shock.
Conducted by music director Russell Keable, the concert opens with Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche: the composer Richard Strauss at his most witty and nimble, recounting a German folk hero’s “merry pranks”.
Joseph Phibbs’s Rivers to the Sea, commissioned by the Philharmonia Orchestra for its 2012 season, features four sharply contrasting movements, culminating in Neon with Sunrise, a celebration of New York.
