Joan Tower
Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No.1
John Adams
Doctor Atomic Symphony
Symphony No. 3

This all-American programme opens with Tower’s vibrant Fanfare, a feminist answer to Copland, whilst Adams’s devastatingly powerful Symphony is taken from his 2005 opera Doctor Atomic. The Divertimento is vintage Bernstein, a joyful reminiscence of his musical childhood, and the energetic drive of Schuman's buoyant Third Symphony made it his first major success.
