Caitlin Hulcup made her European debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2004 as Enriquetta I Puritani and has since appeared at many leading opera houses internationally, including Royal Opera House London, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Theatre an der Wien, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Bayerisches Staatsoper Munich, and Palau de les Arts Valencia. She regularly appears in oratorio, concert and Lieder recitals, and her operatic repetoire features major roles by Handel, Mozart and Strauss. Caitlin has been conducted by Zubin Mehta in Valencia and Florence, as Donna Elvira: Don Giovanni and as Octavian: Der Rosenkavalier. She has also appeared as Octavian in Moscow with Vassily Sinaisky and in Beijing with Sebastian Lang Lessing. As Rosina: Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Caitlin sang at the Wiener Staatsoper with Yves Abel and with Jean- Christoph Spinosi and she has sung Sesto, La Clemenza di Tito with Benjamin Bayl,in Taipei. Caitlin performed her first Idamante: Idomeneo with Tobias Ringborg for Garsington Opera and as Meg Page: Falstaff she has appeared at Theatre des Champs Elysees with Daniele Gatti and Alain Altinoglu. Outstanding among her orchestral engagments were Beethoven 9th Symphony with Gustavo Dudamel in Venezuela, Mahler’s Knaben Wunderhorn at the Sydney Opera House with Mark Wigglesworth, Mozart’s ‘Great’ Cmin Mass with Jeremie Rhorer in Hamburg, and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with Martin Haselböck and the Wiener Akademie. She will soon perform Mahler's 2nd Symphony with the SSO and chief conductor David Robertson. Caitlin has sung with leading early music conductors including René Jacobs (Diana/Il Destino: La Calisto at La Monnaie in Brussels), William Christie (Cyrus: Belshazzar at Salle Playel and Barbican), Christian Currnyn (Aristeus: Orpheus in ROH production by Keith Warner) and Alan Curtis (Ariodante in Braunschweig, Cesare: Catone in Utica at Theatre des Champs Elysees and Alceste: Admeto in Theatre an der Wien). She has performed as Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice with Kenneth Montgomery and as Ariodante with Nicholas Kraemer. Commercial CD releases include Arbaces: Artaxerses for Linn Records with Ian Page, Vivaldi's Griselda for Pinchgut Opera conducted by Erin Helyard, Iphigenie en Tauride with conductor Anthony Walker and Calbo: Maometto II for the Opera Rara lable with Rossini specialist David Parry. Alongside her performing career, Caitlin has gained reputation as a fine singing teacher. She recently adjudicated and gave master classes at AIMS Graz and was a member of staff for the Singing and Teaching Singing course at Guildhall School of Music. Caitlin has also been invited to give masterclasses at the music schools of the University of Melbourne and University of Western Australia and has given workshops with Young Artists at West Australian Opera. Her own training included BMus studies in violin and a quartet scholarship to the Banff Center for the Arts in Canada. She worked as a casual player in the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and began to sing with the West Australian Opera Chorus and was selected for the WA Opera Young Artists programme. As the winner of two Opera Foundation Australia scholarships; the Covent Garden National Opera Studio Award and the Vienna State Opera Award, she was able to move to Europe. Following her MMus degree in voice at the Victorian College of the Arts, Caitlin trained at the National Opera Studio in London with distinguished voice teacher Professor Janice Chapman.
