Nicholas Folwell's previous performances with KSO include: Bluebeard in Bluebeard’s Castle, Scarpia in Tosca, Paul in Die Tote Stadt, Simone Trovai in Violanta (both Korngold) and Méphistophélès in Faust et Hélène (Lili Boulanger).

He began his career at the WNO. His roles included Mozart’s Figaro and Leporello, Pizzaro, Melitone, Escamillo, The Poacher (Vixen), Alberich and Melot and Klingsor (recorded under Goodall). With the other major British opera companies; Falke, Papageno, Mutius (World Premier) (Timon of Athens), Forester (Vixen), Sancho (Don Quixotte), Major Mary (Die Soldaten), Music Master (Ariadne on Naxos), Eckbert (Blond Eckbert) (World Premier), Mr van Tricasse (Dr Ox’s Experiment) (World Premier), Sharpless, Mr Kallenbach (Satyagraha) all at the English National Opera. For the Royal Opera, Poacher under Sir Simon Rattle, Antonio (Figaro) and Nachtigal (Die Meistersinger). For Scottish Opera, Four Villains (Hoffmann), Figaro, Alberich, Melitone, Bartolo (Barbiere) and Mumlal (Two Widows). For Glyndebourne, Pizzaro , Figaro, Antonio and Ortel (Meistersinger). For Opera North, Beckmesser, Leporello and Alberich and for Holland Park, Sharpless, & Pizarro.

Outside the U.K., Alberich, in Nantes, Figaro, Don Inigo Gomez (L’Heure Espagnol) Le Chat & L’Horloge (L’Enfant) for Opera Zuid in Maastricht, Belcore (L’Elisir d’Amore), Germont and Escamillo in Cork, Dreieinigkeits Moses (Mahagonny) for Opera Angers/Nantes and Koroviev (Der Meister und Margarita) world premier at the Paris Opera.

His wide concert repertoire ranges from the classics including, Mahler 8 with Gary Bertini in Torino and Gerontius with Yuri Simanov in Brussels to contemporary works such as the world premiers of Sternbild der Grenze in Paris and Proverbs of Hell in Rome.

Opera in concert performances include Pizzaro with Kurt Masur at the Festival Hall; Lysiart (Euryanthe) with Sir Mark Elder, QEH; and Holländer (Der Fliegende Holländer), QEH.

More recently he sang Alberich in Das Rheingold, Siegfried & Götterdämmerung for the Nationale Reisopera; Alberich in Siegfried in concert with Kent Nagano in Bergen; Der Theater Direktor & Bankier (Lulu) for WNO; Tiger Brown (Dreigroschenoper) with Vladimir Jurovsky; Alberich & Gunther (Der Ring) for Opera de Dijon, Filip (The Jakobin) for Buxton Festival; Abimélech (Samson) for Grange Park Opera, The Trial by Phillip Glass, Scarpia in Bristol and Mr Kallenbach for ENO.

He also joined Lesley Garrett on a successful recital tour of the UK. Nicholas has a solo album called “A Dream of Paradise”, a collection of Ballads of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
