Joan Tower
Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No.1
John Adams
Doctor Atomic Symphony
Symphony No. 3

This all-American programme opens with Tower’s vibrant Fanfare, a feminist answer to Copland. The Divertimento is vintage Bernstein, a joyful reminiscence of his musical childhood while Adams's powerful Symphony is taken from his 2005 opera Doctor Atomic. The energetic drive of Schuman's buoyant Third Symphony which completes the programme, made it his first major success.
