DESCRIPTION:Kensington Symphony Orchestra returns to the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Tuesday 22 January 2019 for a rare complete performance of Ravel’s ballet Daphnis et Chloé. The orchestra is joined by The Epiphoni Consort for the composer’s masterwork\, a sweeping musical panorama that uses the full\, vivid range of a symphony orchestra and chorus to depict the two eponymous lovers and the gang of pirates who abduct the heroine. \nAward-winning pianist Richard Uttley is the soloist in Gershwin’s Romantic-style Concerto in F\, in which the composer combines magnificently the popular rhythms of American jazz\, the lively syncopations of the Charleston and the deep longing of the blues. \nThe concert opens with Kings Row by Korngold\, who used the powerful\, fanfare-like main theme of the 1942 film starring Ronald Reagan as the basis for the rest of his score for the movie\, inspiring music for later films including John Williams’s soundtrack for Star Wars.
