SUMMARY:Weber\, Hindemith and Beethoven
DESCRIPTION:Weber’s Der Freischütz was his most successful opera\, a masterpiece of German Romanticism. The overture immediately creates a magical atmosphere\, wonderfully evoking with deft orchestral colouring both the supernatural and the rustic. \nCompleted before his opera about the German painter Mathias Grünewald\, Hindemith’s Mathis der Maler Symphony is perhaps his greatest work. Its three movements each depict a panel from the painter’s famous Isenheim Altarpiece\, the final section\, with its brass chorale\, being one of the composer’s most sensational achievements. \nSubtitled the ’Pastoral’\, Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony is his response to the countryside and despite a vivid depiction of a storm its five highly melodic movements are predominantly sunny.
