Supporting good causes
KSO has a long history of charitable activities. The orchestra’s first concert, in 1956, was given in aid of the Hungarian Relief Fund, and in recent years, KSO has staged a number of “sponsored play” events to raise money for charity.
The orchestra supports the music programme at Pimlico Academy and has developed links with the Kampala Symphony Orchestra and Music School under its KSO2 programme, providing training, fundraising and instruments.

In April 2018, KSO held its 16th sponsored play at Westfield London, raising more than £21,000 for War Child and the Kensington & Chelsea Foundation’s Grenfell Tower Fund. Money was collected in advance and on the day, and in return for a donation, some lucky members of the audience were able to conduct the orchestra in a selection of popular classics.
